Amelia works very hard as Patricia Johns’s editor, but when Patricia asked if she might do her a very, very big favour and help her with her tiny knitting cards, Amelia agreed. The extra money she makes with her knitting will go toward saving for a car.
A real car. A proper car.
She knows how badly George wants a car. She believes a Barbie car would suit them perfectly.
Won’t George be surprised?

George slowly hung up the phone, a tremor of dread passing through his body.
Exactly how much information had he given that pleasant man on the phone before George realized something was amiss?
Did surveys normally ask for a frog’s date of birth and credit card number?
Blast it! He’d have to call the bank now and cancel his card.
“I’m never answering the phone again!” he declared loudly, as he dialled the number to the bank.
Amelia wasn’t home to hear his declaration. And when she called him a few minutes later, he didn’t pick up the call. He just stared at the phone reproachfully.
Luckily, she got through with a text on his cell phone that said, Should I bring home pizza?
And he texted back, Yes! Oh, gosh, yes!

When George accidentally gave too much information to a strange man on the phone with a soothing voice, he was very upset with himself. The man was a scammer, and before he could cancel his credit card, the horrible man on the phone had ordered $250 worth of Cup-a-Noodle soup. It was insult added to injury.
Amelia: It can happen to anyone, George.
George: I’m supposed to be smarter than this!
Amelia: You are smarter than this. You were tired. You’ve been working so very hard, and there was a crack in your armour.
George: You make me feel better, Amelia.
And she does. She makes him feel like he’s her knight in shining armour… even if there is a crack or two when he’s very tired from working at the office.
So George gives her a kiss.
