When George fell out of an apple tree, more than his pride was hurt. He sprained his ankle, too. It was quite painful for him, but the worst part was having Amelia see him sprawled out on the ground that way.
He sat in his favorite chair, his bandaged foot elevated, and a good book in his hand to read, but he couldn’t focus on the story.
“George?” Amelia called from the other room
“Yes, Amelia?”
“Could you help me open this jar?” she called. There was a pause. “Oh, I forgot. Your poor foot. Never mind.”
“No, no,” George said, pushing himself to his feet and limping off toward the kitchen where her voice was coming from. “I’m on my way!”
He’d pre-tightened all those jars in the fridge on purpose, because he liked it when she asked him for help. Maybe he fell out of a tree today, but he would open a jar of olives for her.
A frog always found a way to be his wife’s hero.

When George’s foot was hurt, Patricia Johns sent the Frogs a gift of gummy bears. They were big and plump, sweet and delicious. And Amelia and George laid in bed that night with George’s foot on a pillow, eating gummy bears and watching Netflix shows together.
George: That was rather nice of Patricia to remember us.
Amelia: She’s quite nice, you know. She even asked how you were feeling and suggested using ice on your ankle.
George: You didn’t tell her I fell out of a tree, did you?
Amelia: I just told her that you fell. She didn’t need to know how far you fell. Some things are private, George. I don’t tell her every last detail, you know. I’m her editor, and there are professional boundaries.
George: Thank goodness.

One afternoon when George was at work, Amelia got an email from the publishing house saying that she was due for a raise in pay. Amelia was delighted! She worked very hard, and it felt so good to have her hard work recognized.
Amelia went outside to sit in the warm autumn sunlight and absorb some Vitamin D AND the wonderful news.
Some news needed to be held for a few minutes and relished in silence before it was shared.
But when Amelia had finished relishing her news, the first one she’d tell was dear George.
I hope you enjoy the saga of my frog couple. I have so much fun with them! If you’d like to read some of the books Amelia has worked so hard on editing, you can find them HERE.
