Every night, Amelia read before she went to sleep, and every night George would peek over her should at the Patricia Johns novel Amelia was reading.
What was it that made the men in those books so desirable? What was it that made women fall headlong in love with them?
Good questions for a newly married frog to ask! So while Amelia was out at the store one evening, George picked up a Patricia Johns book that he’d ordered on Amazon, ready to find some answers.
He was going to read this book like a road map, or like one of those little instruction booklets that came with Ikea furniture.
But this would be his secret.

While Amelia took their very old, very rusted, falling-apart car through the car wash, she got a text on her phone. It was from her husband, George.
George: “I spent $6.95 on our credit card.”
Amelia and George never hid what they spent. It was part of a financial faithfulness, and Amelia cared a great deal about this.
She texted him back: “What did you buy, George?”
George: “I’m afraid I can’t tell you. But you’d better write it down in our financial ledger.”
Lately, George had been spending $6.95 every week, and he wasn’t saying what he was spending it on!
When Amelia got out of the car wash, she texted George: “I spent $8.95 on a car wash. And something fell off the car in there… I don’t know what it was, but it clanged very loudly.”
Honesty was key.

One day, Amelia got home early. She opened their bedroom door and her went wide with surprise. There was George sitting on their bed in the middle of a pile of books.
“Why, George, what are you doing?” Amelia asked.
George’s face went red. “I’ve been caught reading romance novels. Oh, I’m embarrassed.”
“Why are you embarrassed?” Amelia asked. “They’re very good books. I keep trying to tell you. Is this what you’ve been ordering on Amazon?”
“Yes,” George admitted. “It is. I wanted to see how to make you swoon for me. So I started reading them.”
“What did you learn?” she asked.
George gave her a roguish smile.
I hope you’ve been enjoying the tale of these newlyweds! I sure enjoy playing with my knitted frogs.
I also enjoy writing the books that George reads in secret! I hope you’ll check them out! They are stories with love, passion, longing, family drama and delicious cooking.
