A car as wonderful as the one advertised couldn’t stay available long, Amelia just knew it! So she called up her mother, and the very next day they went to go look at the car.
“Amelia, what a stunning shade of pink!” her mother exclaimed. “And I just love the rabbit theme. Look! It even has a fluffy little tail in the back!”
“But George isn’t keen about a pink car,” Amelia said.
“Oh…” her mother sighed. “Well, I’m about to give you a little bit of advice, my dear girl.”
“Yes?” Amelia said.
“You’ve got to think about George’s feelings, too,” her mother said. “He’s a good frog, and he works hard. He also loves you heart and soul. That combination is golden, and should never be taken for granted. Now, I love this car! It’s beautiful, but if he doesn’t want to get it, don’t push. This is the first big purchase of your marriage, and you want to do it with love.”
That sounded like very good advice to Amelia, and she gave the car one last look of longing.
“Let me take a picture!” her mother said. “Then you can at least show George what it looks like with your lovely face right next to it!”

It was the right price. It was in good working order. It would be reliable, too. But the car was pink! And it had bunny ears, and a tail!
George wasn’t sure what to do about it. His wife loved the car, but could he bring himself to drive it?
Unsure of what else to do, George called his father to ask his advice.
“It’s pink, you say?” his father asked. “How pink? Like… a little bit pink?”
“No, very, very pink,” George replied. “It’s quite a womanly car. Amelia loves it, and so does her mother.”
“Hmm. Well, I say buy it.”
“But how would I look driving it?” George asked.
“You’d look married, son!” his father retorted gruffly. “Anyone seeing you driving that car will assume that you’re driving the car you bought for your wife, and they will leap to the conclusion that your wife is very dearly loved, very well cared for, and that you’re a lucky frog indeed.”
That settled it. George hung up the phone and hollered to the other room.
“Amelia! Get your purse! We’re buying the car!”

As George and Amelia drove their new car away, they were filled with happiness. It was perfect!
“Do you mind very much that it’s pink?” Amelia asked.
“It’s all right,” George said.
“Do you mind the ears and tail?” she asked.
“My father gave me some advice,” George admitted.
“What did he say?” she asked breathlessly.
“He pointed out that this car is almost better than a wedding ring,” George replied. “When I drive this, everyone will know without a doubt that I’m a married frog and I’m driving my wife’s car.”
“Oh, George!” Amelia said, and she gave him a wobbly smile.
“But be warned,” George said. “We’re now out of money. We’ll have to tighten our belt. And this Christmas will have to be very simple.”
“I’ll figure something out,” Amelia said. “You’ll have a wonderful Christmas, George! I’ll make sure of it!”
