Northern Lights

I live quite far north, just a hop, skip and a jump from Edmonton, Alberta. We are technically northern Alberta. It’s cold. Winters are long. And we get Northern Lights.

I’d just never seen them!

My husband would see them went he went for an early morning run, and I’d never spot them! I mean, I saw some murky green now and again, but that didn’t seem right. I really wanted to see them–desperately. I even signed up for an email that would tell me when I’d be most likely to spot them. I prayed to see them!

Last night, the Northern Lights were very active, and people in the US were even spotting them. So we ran outside to see what we could see. And honestly? A bit of pale green that almost looked white. The longer you looked at it, the more you could see a bit of ribboning, and it would flow like water. Kind of like cloud. I’d seen that a hundred times, though.

But then I pulled out my phone to look at it through the camera like people were recommending, and the colours all came to light! With the lights from town, I needed a little help to get a good view of them.

I feel like there is a life lesson there, though. I prayed to see them, and I HAD seen them a hundred times before. I just didn’t recognize them for what they were because of all the light pollution of town.

Makes me wonder how many times I’ve done that with other things in my life, you know?

I hope you’ll check out my books!
