We have vinyl plank flooring, and it’s beautiful! It’s resilient, and looks great. I love it. The only problem is that over time, sometimes a single plank will shift and we’ll get a little open space. It drove me a little crazy, because I really loved my pretty floor.
I started by filling those spaces with putty and caulking–just to keep them from filling up with sand and debris. I even got brown caulking so it would blend in, but honestly? It didn’t blend in enough. So I used a marker to color on top of it, and in one place it looked kind of gold…
And I liked it! It was nice to get a little glimmer of gold out of the corner of my eye. It was pretty, and while it was an imperfection on my floor, it was a pretty imperfection. So I bought a gold paint marker, and I used it on those little gaps.

The Japanese have a practice of repairing pottery with gold called Kintsugi. I’m sure you’ve seen the pictures of this. So I suppose this is plank flooring Kintsugi!
Sometimes, you just need the embrace the imperfect, if you don’t want to call in a flooring guy to fix it for you. 🙂
