Now, I don’t know what these are actually called. They aren’t exactly hashed browns, and while I’ve seen short video after short video about making them peppered through my social media feeds, I haven’t seen what they’re called!
So… I’m calling them Braided Potatoes in my home, and you’re welcome to call them anything you like. But they are delicious!

They’re quite easy to make, too! And that’s something that’s important in my home. If it’s too complicated, I’m never making it.
Ingredients:
Several peeled, cubed potatoes
1 diced onion
Salt (to taste)
Garlic powder (to taste)
Several heaping tablespoons of corn starch
Drizzle of oil
Drizzle of water
Enough oil to deep fry
Directions:
Boil the potatoes and onions together until soft. Then drain and mash very well. You want it to be a smooth as possible. Add in a little oil and water to get the smoothest consistency possible. Then add salt and garlic powder and mix well.
Next add in several heaping tablespoons of corn starch. The amount of corn starch will depend on how much potato mixture you’ve got. But basically, you’re wanting to add in enough corn starch that you can make little ropes of potato that don’t fall apart. You can’t really mess it up. If making little ropes of potato doesn’t work, add more corn starch until it does!

Make a small ball of potato mixture in your palm, and then role it out into a rope. Make three ropes, and then braid them on a plate.
Once you have a braid, you’ll transfer it to a pan of hot oil and deep fry until golden brown.

Serve while hot, and dip them in ketchup.
So good! I will definitely be making these again!
