A little unobtrusive mistletoe

One year, I bought mistletoe. It’s plastic, of course. And I couldn’t find a green one for love nor money. But I did find a white one, so I bought it and hung it up.

That was a fun Christmas, teaching my African born husband the tradition of mistletoe. Our son was little then, and he loved standing under the mistletoe to have me scoop him up and kiss his cheeks. Somehow, mistletoe in our home turned into me waylaying my husband and son and giving them kisses when they got within arms reach of it.

But when cleaning up after the holidays, we forgot to put away the mistletoe. In my defence, it kind of blends in to the ceiling.

And it’s still there. I never did put it away, and it’s been about ten years now that it’s been hanging there. Now, the thought of putting it away breaks my heart for some unknown reason.

So it stays there, and when I spot it, it makes me smile. A little bit of Christmas year round. My teenager no longer lets me kiss his cheek when I catch him under it, but Mr. Johns is still fair game!

I hope you are enjoying the season. And while you are curling up to relax, maybe you’ll check out my books! I have quite a back list, including some Christmas books.

Happy reading!

  1. I absolutely love your story! Im very sentimental and would leave it up forever!

  2. Hi! We also have a plastic mistletoe ball up year round. I have no idea how many years we’ve had it. I think I bought it at a thrift store. It’s brought a lot of laughs and kisses into our lives. Some of the white colored beads had fallen off before we got it, so I popped on some red pony beads to liven it up, and it’s hung up on a red ribbon. Ours is hung up in the doorway between the kitchen and living room. It would probably be a good first Christmas gift for newlyweds. 🙂 Thank you for your enjoyable stories! I just finished reading one today.
