Mantle is the third book in Dana McNeely’s Whispers on the Wind miniseries about the lives of the prophets Elijah and Elisha. The first book was incredibly powerful, and the second book was very good, too. But the third book wraps it all up, and I was delighted to see how Ms. McNeely spun together fiction with the Biblical stories in such an emotionally satisfying and spiritually uplifting way.
This book is filled with wonderful insights about the time period and the culture where these ancient stories are set, but it is also chock full of wonderful spiritual insights. The one that really stuck with me was that with God there are no coincidences. I loved that! God is always working out something–sometimes using us and sometimes not!–to bring his goodness into the world, even when times are brutal and scary.
If you enjoy Biblical fiction, I highly recommend this entire series! But start at the beginning with Rain. These books are absolutely fantastic!
Happy reading!
