We love the Amish ways of life that bring such peace and happiness to this group of people, but how many times do we say we could never actually do live that way?
Give up electricity? Give up the internet? Give up motor vehicles? It’s too much to ask! But there are ways that we can bring Amish sensibilities into our lives right here and now.
The Amish prioritize relationships. From Amish women working together in work bees to get their fruit canning done, or a quilting circle chatting while they complete a gorgeous handmade quilt. The men get together to help each other with large tasks, too, and the children all know each other very well.
What can we do in our own lives to start prioritizing quality friendships?
~Reach out to one friend every day just to say hello. You can do it online with a message, or with an email. Open up and ask how they are doing!
~Smile at strangers on the street. It really does help to make you feel less isolated!
~Make small talk with the people who serve you. They’re people, too! And that human connection is healing.
~Pray for God to send you a new friend. Who knows who might be lonely and in need of friendship? You might be an answer to their prayer, too!
We don’t have to move to a farm to start focusing on the things that matter most.
Happy reading!
