A 50-year-old Orange Peeler

I was visiting my parents not long ago when I spotted this Tupperware orange peeler in their sink, and I hollered! I couldn’t believe my parents still had it! I remember this orange peeler from when I was a really small child. It’s one of my earliest memories, and I’m confident my parents got it before I was even born.

And they still use it regularly! I mean, it’s Tupperware, so it lasts forever, and it does the job well.

Just recently, my husband and I were talking about family heirlooms, and how the things that stick around don’t tend to be the big, expensive, fancy things. It’s a mixing bowl, or measuring cup. A child’s toy. Or… in this case, an orange peeler!

If anyone thinks they don’t have any family heirlooms, I’d suggest they go rummaging through their parents’ cutlery drawer. There is bound to be something great-grandma passed along that still gets used because it’s functional and too boring to replace.

In fiction, an heirloom is an emerald ring. In our family, it’s probably Tupperware. 😉

    Good Monday Afternoon Patricia,

Ha! Ha! So true! In my family it’s a white bowl with a red and black design on it. My mother used to put gravy in it when we were little and later she used it for her fruit salad. I love that bowl for all the memories it triggers!

    Thank you ,

      Good Monday Afternoon Again Patricia,

Not sure where that brieflydaze9d… came from. It appears at the top of my messages to you and sometimes on other messages. 😦

Loved your email about the Tupperware orange peeler! My mom still has several of their products. They last forever and work great!

      Thank you,

      Julie Bullock

      1. Tupperware does work great! I picked up a Tupperware juice pitcher at the fair one year. I love it!

    2. I have some bowls my parents let me take when I moved out, too. I remember them from my early childhood, and now my son can remember them from his childhood as well!

I still have one of those peelers. Mine is orange color.

  3. I still have mine from when I was a Tupperware dealer in the 1980s. Use it every time I have an orange! My favorite heirloom from the kitchen is a noodle cutter. Still use it today!

Your comments make me feel warm and fuzzy. Seriously!
