I have a free online read that will be available beginning August 30, 2021 on the Harlequin site. It’s a mini-romance–20 chapters that are unlocked one per day, culminating in a happily ever after. 🙂
I’ll give you a link in next week’s post when the free read is live, but I know you’ll enjoy it. This is the story of a beautiful Amish girl and the shy, awkward man next door who’s been writing her letters for his grandmother. You have to love an Amish mammi who wants to see a wedding! 🙂
Just wanted to let you know about it so that you don’t miss out! It releases October 1, but you can pre-order now. 🙂
ON A PERSONAL NOTE…
I haven’t always been very good at taking a rest from my work. I love writing books, and I’m the kind of person whose passion can take over her entire life. (This is a good thing for my marriage with Mr. Johns who gets the benefit of a wife who loves him with that kind of passion, too, but a bad thing when it comes to taking proper time off.)
Lately, Mr. Johns and I have been enjoying reading together on the weekends. (I’m rather proud of myself for this work/life balance.) I snapped a picture of Mr. Johns reading because I think he’s such a handsome guy! He’s reading some John Grisham, and I’m reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I do love some dramatic Gothic fiction!
(If you click on the pictures, you can see a bigger version. You might notice Mr. Johns’s bookmark. I made that one just for him. ❤ )
These are the things I’ve been enjoying the last week! I hope you’re finding some quality reading time in your busy lives, too!
My Second Chance Club miniseries is very close to my heart. I love these stories! They’re about a group of divorced friends who have a dinner club that meets regularly at the Mountain Springs Lodge in Colorado. Set in the Rocky Mountains, perched on the edge of a glacier fed lake, these stories tell about a special group of women as they support each other, encourage each other, and provide the bedrock for getting back on their feet once more.
There is Melanie, who divorced her cheating ex after fifteen years of marriage and after raising his kids from his first marriage for him, thinking that she was sacrificing for a marriage that would last. The problem is, even though her ex is firmly in the past, her heart is still with the kids.
There’s Jen, who came back to her home town with her preteen son in order to open an art gallery, but things aren’t coming together quite the way she hoped. Her son doesn’t want to start fresh in this tiny, mountain town, and he misses his father who is already moving on with a much younger woman.
There is Taryn, delightedly pregnant at thirty-nine with a baby she never expected. She tried for years to become a mother, and only after her divorce, and after a one night stand she hoped to put into the past, does she get her deepest wish. The part that wasn’t part her of her plan? Coming face-to-face with the father of this baby that she’d hoped to never see again.
And there is Angelina, who divorced the Uber-wealthy love of her life after one year of marriage, and since then has grown herself and her career into something truly phenomenal on her own.
The other women in the group include Renata whose husband tried to move his mistress into the house, Belle who used to be a model but it the first one to find the beauty in her friends, and Gayle whose husband came out of the closet after thirty-five years of marriage leaving her wondering what she’d been missing out on all those years that she just assumed were normal.
These women have been through enough, and they aren’t willing to settle for less than real, true, deep love this time around.
These books are probably the best writing I’ve ever done! They have a touch of women’s fiction, a lot of romance, and mature issues and problems that real women face. But can I tell you how hard these books are for me to market? They are probably my best kept secret–and not on purpose, either!
The fourth and final book hits the shelves this December, and I just love this story SO much! Finally, the owner of the Mountain Springs Resort, Angelina Cunningham, gets her Happily Ever After, and I can tell you, when I wrote the end of this one, wrapping up the miniseries, I had tears in my eyes.
I’m going to miss these women!
So without further ado, I want to share my newest cover with you.
I hope you’ll pick this one up when it comes out, and the previous three books in the miniseries, too! If you love mature heroines, deep, emotional romance, and the complicated lives of characters you’ll never forget, this miniseries is for you!
ON A PERSONAL NOTE…
Last week, we went to the Bountiful Farmer’s Market, which is local, and we had a great time! But I’d gone there specifically for one store–Page Turners Bookshop. The owner there makes flowers out of old classic books that were falling apart, and I wanted to get some for my desk. Because really, how appropriate is that? 🙂 And I just love them! These are the things that make me happy.
If you’d like to order some of your own, they’re very reasonably priced, and she operates an Etsy shop as well!
I hope you are all enjoying this last bit of summer!
My SECOND CHANCE CLUB miniseries has been such a joy to write! These books have heroines who are 40-ish with heroes old enough to know what they want and how to get it. They have more to lose, and it takes a whole lot more to sweep them off their feet, but true love always finds a way.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN BABY releases June 2021, and it is the third book in the miniseries. Marketing expert Taryn Cook is seven months pregnant when she arrives at the Mountain Springs Resort to do an ad campaign, and she’s stunned to run into an old acquaintance… more than an acquaintance, actually. He’s the father of her child whom she never expected to see again!
But here they are in the idyllic mountain resort with two weeks of work ahead of them, and they’re determined to keep this professional for their baby’s sake. This child will need two functional parents, and having a strong friendship for co-parenting seems more important right now than following the attraction that brought them together to begin with.
But with the Second Chance Dinner Club which meets at the resort for their monthly gatherings and some understanding women who’ve all been there before, a happily ever after starts to feel possible.
I love seeing the differing cover treatments for my books when they are released overseas. I recently got a box of the Mills and Boon version of Mountain Mistletoe Christmas that is being released together with M. K. Stelmack’s All They Want For Christmas. The Mills and Boon version is being published in Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
I notice things like how in the Mills and Boon version, they don’t include the dog. Here in North America, a dog on a cover is a real pull right now! We love our pets, and we love seeing them in our fiction, too. But what sells here in North America is a little different from what appeals to readers in other countries, and I love seeing how the marketing teams work!
If you haven’t picked up a copy of Mountain Mistletoe Christmas yet, I hope you will! It’s the second book in my Second Chance Club miniseries, and I really love these mature heroes and heroines! I think you will, too!
I’m so thrilled to remind you about the second book in my Second Chance Club miniseries… Mountain Mistletoe Christmas is officially releasing October 6, 2020.
And I love this story!
Love is a whole lot more complicated when you’ve already been married once and you’ve got kids in the mix. Gone are the days of simple dates and seeing if there’s chemistry.
Nick Bryant knows from experience that trying to change yourself for a relationship doesn’t work. And his new client, Jen Taylor, is the kind of woman who is way above him on the social ladder.
He’s done this before… it doesn’t end well.
So why can’t he manage to keep business and pleasure separate?
I love writing heroes and heroines who are old enough to know what they want… and how to get it. 😉 With a little bit of life experience comes a new, toe-curling level of attraction. And it takes a whole lot more to get these two world-weary souls together.
It’s late August and I can just start to feel a hint of fall in the air… and I just received a box of Christmas books!
If you haven’t read my Second Chance Club miniseries yet, I think you’ll love them! These are the stories of women who are part of a dinner club hosted in a Rocky Mountain resort. The women are divorced, trying to figure out the next step in their lives, and leaning on each other through it all. Somehow, with some good friends and some fine dining, life feels a little easier to handle!
Definitely check these out! They’ll remind you why life is beautiful, I promise!
Mountain Mistletoe Christmas releases October 2020! So pre-order it now so you don’t miss out!
This is the second book in my Second Chance Club miniseries, featuring a dinner club for divorced women in their forties in a Rocky Mountain resort. They’re starting over and facing all the challenges of parenting, working, managing relationships, and building lives they can be proud of… and with the help of some good friends who’ve all been through it before, they’re falling in love, too.
Can the magic of the season…
Bring opposites together?
Don’t change for a relationship. That’s contractor Nick Bryant’s motto. But when single mom Jen Taylor hires him to renovate her old mansion, he wants to impress her. Nick knows Jen’s focus is her son, and she’ll never want a man who wields a hammer instead of a Harvard degree. But as they prepare her home for Christmas, he can’t help wishing for a moment under the mistletoe!
Can you commit to reading and posting an honest review for Mountain Mistletoe Christmas? In some places the reviews would need to be posted on or after the release date of October 13, 2020, so being able to come back and post reviews at that time would be very much appreciated for those who would like to review. If that is you, please contact me using the form below with the following:
1. Tell me a little bit about yourself
2. Tell me where you can commit to posting reviews. For example, Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes and Noble, BAM, Harlequin, Walmart, Target, or anywhere else where you buy your books.
I can supply an EPUB copy of the book by email. No other versions of the book are available for review at this time.
Starting over isn’t easy… especially when your cheating ex-husband’s teenaged daughter lands on your doorstep! But Melanie Isaacs isn’t alone–she’s got some old friends, a dinner club of supportive women who’ve seen all of this before, and the first man she’d ever loved back in town.
She just might make a full recovery…
THEIR MOUNTAIN REUNION is officially on sale starting tomorrow! This is the first book in my SECOND CHANCE CLUB miniseries, and you won’t want to miss this one! This miniseries focuses on women in their forties starting over and finding the kind of love they deserve with the help of some good friends, some fine wine, and a mountain retreat that is just so good for the soul.
With the Second Chance Dinner Club, there’s always room at the table for one more weary heart.
I got yet another box of books, and I’m so happy to finally have these books, because this one releases in a matter of weeks! That’s right–May, this one hits the virtual shelves, and I think you’re going to love it!
Their Mountain Reunion is a story about love after heartbreak and second chances when your teenaged step-daughter thinks you’re too old for it. 😉
Melanie Isaacs raised her ex’s kids, and now she’s divorced and out of the family circle. Obviously. Except her stepdaughter Tilly has arrived at the lake house that Melanie got in the divorce and she’s refusing to leave.
Add to that, Melanie’s ex from way back in the day is in town searching for his biological father he lost touch with, and Melanie is inclined to help him. It sure beats dealing with a seventeen-year-old’s eye rolls and attitude.
Logan has grown up, and he’s got a young adult son and some recent heartbreak of his own. When they were teenagers, the chemistry seemed like enough, but they’re both a little wiser now. And a little more world weary, too.
But when Melanie attends a mysterious dinner club at the upscale Mountain Springs Lodge, second chances start feeling possible again…
This is the first book in THE SECOND CHANCE CLUB miniseries!

A new start…
With an old flame?
Fifteen years in an unhappy marriage showed Melanie Isaacs exactly what she didn’t want. Now she’s in Mountain Springs to figure out the rest of her life—even if it means facing her former sweetheart, Logan McTavish. The spark between Logan and Melanie is stronger than ever. But is it enough to heal two weary, damaged hearts…and show them the way to a new happiness?
When you write a book, get it accepted, and even begin the editing process, you don’t know the title that the book will be published under. You have a working title, but as for the one that will be on the shelves? Complete surprise!
So I was finally given the title for my new miniseries that starts this May with Harlequin Heartwarming: THE SECOND CHANCE CLUB.
The lodge that inspired the setting. This is the real life Cathedral Mountain Lodge.
Angelina Cunningham has been through a brutal divorce, but she’s fared well! And she’s determined to help her friends in a similar situation. So she begins a dinner club at her mountain lodge called The Second Chance Club, and the women who meet there are an emotional support for each other as well as a source of advice for women who are still overwhelmed by all the changes and heartbreak that divorce brings.
The first book, THEIR MOUNTAIN REUNION, comes out May 2020.
This is a special book… When my agent read it, she said that it was the best book I’d written to date and she just gushed about how much she loved it! And I love it, too! I think what made this particular book resonate with me so much was that my heroine is 40. This is the first time I’ve written a heroine my age, and I just loved the experience! This whole miniseries will feature women in their forties hashing through life’s issues and finding love.
